new release, coming September 2026
Alyosha is The Dust of Suns Ensemble's fourth album of original chamber miniatures. Drawing on the charm of French musette music and the evocative tone of a cinematic score, these pieces reimagine classical forms for the modern listener. The music aims to tell vivid stories without uttering a single word.
Alyosha will be released on all major digital platforms, and a limited-edition 10-inch colored vinyl record will be available at Twin Cities record stores beginning September 1, 2026.
The ensemble will celebrate the release with a concert at The Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis on September 27, 2026, from 7:00–8:30 p.m. Tickets will be available through the museum's website: tmora.org.
Bio
The Dust of Suns Ensemble is a Twin Cities–based quartet featuring:
Chris Lynch, piano/composer
Erica Burton, Viola
Jacqueline Ultan, Cello
Phala Tracy, Harp
Inspired by literature, film, and everyday moments of wonder, Chris Lynch's instrumental compositions often balance humor with emotional depth and quiet complexity. Chris brings each composition to the group as a piano piece, and the ensemble collaboratively shapes it into its final form, with each string player creating her own part.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind Alyosha, Chris Lynch says, "We wanted Alyosha to be our most beautiful album—to be worthy of its name. Alyosha, the protagonist of Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov, is a truly beautiful soul sent out to heal the world."
